"Built from scratch, this battery clamp frame, holds the battery in place.
As the legends goes, these clamps were notoriously unreliable, made from metal, if the frame touched both battery terminals simultaneously, it caused a short circuit that could burn the whole vehicle to the ground, "originally dangerous", or so it seems.

I reckon i will keep this clamp "on hold" until i find a solution to isolate the battery properly, till then, it will be placed under the driver´s seat."

O que vos parece? Nada mal!

" What do you think? not too shabby! Built from the ground up, using the original, keeping the original mounting brackets from the old one. Really pleased with the final result."

Parts and more parts

-I was missing some of the parts required to re-assemble the chassis, hopefully i am not missing anything anymore. Lets see.

I should point out:
- 2x Track rod ends
- 1x steering arm shock absorber
- 20x wheel nuts

Several bolts, screws and washers...ain´t life grand :)

Conclusão (eixos) - Axles and Paint

Veremos.

- The axles among other parts, were concluded and are now ready to be re-assembled.
Re-aseembling has been done at a slow pace but everything in a restoration is done slowly, specially considering its not a common car and not every part is available. I have received wrong parts, that doesn´t help it either.
I am planning to have a rolling chassis with it´s wheels in place by the end of the year 2015, lets see how it goes, i am hoping that there won't be anymore unforeseen situations. We´ll see.

- Here we have two front shock absorber turrets, rear mounting bushes for the bottom links and the missing bump stop. Wish me luck.

Axles and others - fixing the problems

- Unfortunately i trusted my Range Rover to the wrong person and what i thought was done properly, truly wasn't.
Per example, my examples were badly treated, badly painted and worse, they had rust under the paint.
There was no turning around, no shortcuts, we had to do it all over again.
Another example, my wheel hubs...its sad really. Moving on.

Passos a tomar?
- Decapar novamente
- protejer roscas e superfícies onde são aplicadas juntas
- Metalizar eixos a quente

- Steps?
- Sandblast again
- Protect the screw sides and joints to where gaskets are used
-  HVOF coating

- You can see the rear axle´s serial number in this photo - 35505137A
It adds up with the production year/month and the 355 prefix is due to the fact of rear axles for LHD and RHD being the same.

- In this photograph you can see the front axle´s serial number - 35801200A-
Which also adds up, being the chassis number 35801120A, again the 358 prefix (LHD) which makes sense and proves it still has its original axles.  I apologize for the inverted photo.

- On the photographs below, it shows the preparation necessary for sandblasting.

- You can see clearly the difference between sandblasted parts and parts that have been treated with HVOF. Its not essentially necessary to use HVOF as they didn't come like that from factory, but as i don't intend to sell...i rather do it once and never have to worry about it again. No more problems like the 1st time!

- On the photographs below, you can see the condition on which the chassis arrived to the actual garage it is in, from when it left Paulo Jorge´s establishment.
If its not an absolute disgrace then i don't know what is, its a clear example of unprofessional work, ridiculous and absurd, not cause of the money i´ve spent but for the wasted time.
If you don't have the required conditions to perform a decent restoration, just say no, and don't do it, simple as that.
This is not a Defender or a P38, this is one of the few living suffix A Range Rovers in Portugal and one of the surviving few in the world, deserves a little more respect and consideration from someone who calls himself a Land Rover enthusiast.

- The Range Rover had a ladder based chassis, as do all Land Rovers from the same era, this stage is called: Removal and replacing old bushes for new ones (Genuine Land Rover, as always).
Below, as you can see on the photographs, 40 years later combined with nature´s course, the condition of the so called bushes wasn't the best, we were forced to use methods of removal, more aggressive than usual.

- On the photographs below, the front radius arms and bottom links with new bushes, ready to be fitted correctly to the chassis

- Another Range Rover has joined the herd, it´s a 1988 Range Rover Classic 2.4VM on original Chamonix White body color. It will also go through a comprehensive restoration, although not as extreme as mine.
It is with great pleasure that i assist in its restoration. I am not alone.

- You can see the chassis is almost 100% finished and the assembling of the 1st pieces of the puzzle.
GC-36-80 (or 1120A) - the light at the end of the tunnel is near?
